Meet...Marco

Q: What is it you do on Tremiti?

A: Well to start with, I live here. I’m so in love with this place that I strive to preserve it and enrich it with the work I put into my family business. The Napolitano family runs the hotel and restaurant Gabbiano on the island of San Domino, and the B&B La Casa di Gino on the island of San Nicola.

Q: How long has your family business been open?

A: The hotel Gabbiano was built and opened by my parents, Gino and Tilde, in 1973; we then opened La Casa di Gino in 2010.

Q: How long have you lived on the island?

A: On a stable basis, since I finished military service: that’s about 30 years ago. Before that I just used to come in the summer, because during the year I was away, moving between Termoli in Molise and Chiavari in Liguria, going to school.

Q: Are you open all year round?

A: We’re open most of the year: from spring till autumn.

Q: What services do you offer?

A: The Hotel Gabbiano is at the service of our guests, with rooms endowed with all comforts and services and a complimentary transfer service to take our guests to and from the port. We have full-board or half-board options with the possibility of choosing the à la carte menu if our clients so prefer. The restaurant is open to external clients too, not just hotel guests! In the summer evenings on our panoramic terrace overlooking the island of San Nicola you can listen to live piano music. The hotel also has an annexed wellness centre: the Coco Mama Spa, fully equipped with a pool, sauna, steam room, massage room, and everything you need to wind down after a day at the beach or enjoy a moment of complete relaxation. Annexed to the spa we also have a gym, furnished with all kinds of cardio and strength-building equipment. La Casa di Gino used to be the childhood home of my father, Gino Napolitano. It underwent complete refurbishment works with the aim of creating a cosy, homely atmosphere, in the context of the island of San Nicola which in itself is a captivating place. We serve our breakfasts on the panoramic terrace, and a complimentary service of an electric vehicle to take our guests up to the B&B upon arrival and departure.

Q: How can people contact you?

A: Directly via e-mail on info@hotel-gabbiano.com

Q: What are the best and worst aspects of living on Tremiti?

A: You can’t beat the lifestyle here – the slow rhythms of life, which of course intensify during the summer with the increase of the workload; but otherwise life here is relaxed, to be enjoyed 100%. On the other hand, you can end up feeling the insularity of the place – you are of course literally isolated, so moving around and doing things requires forward planning, and is less immediate than on the mainland as we are subject to timetable restrictions and weather conditions.
